BULTAVO 3™ is a new vaccine that protects cattle and sheep against bluetongue virus serotype 3 (BTV-3). BULTAVO 3™ is the first BTV-3 vaccine that prevents clinical signs and mortality. This is the vaccine that we will be stocking and supplying and is now licensed for use in NI. It is a a POM-V vaccine therefore needs to be prescribed by a vet.

It comes in 50 dose bottles and is a live vaccine so once opened needs using.

DOSE RATES:
Sheep need a single 1ml dose
Cattle need a 1ml dose, followed by a second 1ml dose 3 weeks later

BATTLE BLUETONGUE:
As there is no treatment for the disease, BTV-3 continues to pose a significant threat to both cattle, sheep, goats and camelids, with potential impacts on animal health, productivity, and trade. Therefore, slowing the disease spread through vaccination and restricted movements in affected areas remains the best defence.
The proactive campaign – ‘Battle Bluetongue’ – has been developed by Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and Ruminant Health & Welfare (RH&W) in collaboration with key veterinary and industry associations. The team at Cheshire Farm Vets are right behind this. We encourage you all to have a proactive conversation with your vet about the best options for your herd or flock. There is no right or wrong answer and we would encourage you to consider the options for vaccination or the best ways to protect your stock.
